Bei Drinks und offenen Räumen haben Sie die Gelegenheit, in die Arbeiten von Helga Haiman einzutauchen. Sie können den Ausstellungsraum als lebendigen Übergangszustand erfahren. Die Künstlerin wird anwesend sein.

Mit Notes on Detachment präsentiert die Fotografin und Filmemacherin Helga Haiman eine immersive Ausstellung, die sich mit einem zentralen Gefühl der Gegenwart auseinandersetzt: dem Zustand des Losgelöstseins an der Schwelle zum Erwachsenwerden. Die Ausstellung eröffnet einen Raum. In einer Zeit verdichten sich Erwartungen an Arbeit, Identität und gesellschaftliche Rollen. In diesem Raum scheinen diese Strukturen temporär außer Kraft gesetzt.

Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit ist der El Camino – eine jahrhundertealte Pilgerroute, die hier weniger als religiöser Pfad, sondern eher als zeitgenössischer Erfahrungsraum verstanden wird. Über Hunderte von Kilometern hinweg entsteht ein Zustand des Übergangs, in dem Alltag und Zeitgefühl ihre gewohnte Form verlieren. Der Camino wird in dieser Lesart zu einem modernen „Neverland“: einem Zwischenraum, in dem sich Freiheit, Bewegung und Gegenwärtigkeit entfalten können.

Die ausgestellten Arbeiten basieren auf analoger Fotografie. Deren bewusste Begrenzungen – die begrenzte Anzahl der Aufnahmen, die verlangsamte Bildentstehung und die charakteristische Körnung – fördern eine intensive Form der Wahrnehmung. Die Bilder fungieren dabei weniger als Dokumentation und eher als visuelles Tagebuch. Sie halten flüchtige Begegnungen, Landschaften und Lichtstimmungen fest, die sich der schnellen digitalen Bildproduktion entziehen.

Die Ausstellung ist als begehbare Installation konzipiert. Fotografien unterschiedlicher Formate werden frei im Raum arrangiert und durch handschriftliche Notizen sowie originale  Tagebuch-Fragmente ergänzt. Diese fragmentarische Struktur erzeugt eine eigene Dramaturgie, die Besucher’innen in ihrem eigenen Rhythmus erschließen können – ähnlich einer Wanderung. Der Ausstellungsraum wird so selbst zum Übergangszustand.

Ergänzt wird die visuelle Ebene durch eine Klanglandschaft aus Naturgeräuschen und elektronischen Elementen. Diese ist nicht konstant präsent, sondern erschließt sich erst durch die Annäherung an einzelne Arbeiten. Die Bewegung im Raum wird damit Teil der Erfahrung und verstärkt den Moment der bewussten Wahrnehmung.

Notes on Detachment findet als viertägige Pop-up-Ausstellung statt und wird von einem Veranstaltungsprogramm begleitet, das sich mit Fragen von Reise, Identität und Loslösung auseinandersetzt.

Die Arbeit versteht sich nicht als rein persönliche Erzählung, sondern als Einladung: In der Verbindung von Bild, Klang und Text entsteht ein Raum, in dem Besucher’innen eigene Erfahrungen von Freiheit, Orientierung und Selbstsein reflektieren können.

Über die Künstlerin

Helga Haiman ist Fotografin und Filmemacherin. In ihrer Arbeit beschäftigt sie sich mit Fragen von Identität, Übergang und Wahrnehmung. Notes on Detachment basiert auf einer persönlichen Reise entlang des El Camino, die aus dem Wunsch heraus entstand, sich bewusst den Erwartungen an das Erwachsenwerden zu entziehen und alternative Formen von Erfahrung und Selbstbestimmung zu erkunden.

With drinks and open spaces, the evening offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the work of Helga Haiman and to experience the exhibition space as a living state of transition. The artist will be present.

With Notes on Detachment, photographer and filmmaker Helga Haiman presents an immersive exhibition that explores a central feeling of the present: the state of detachment on the threshold of adulthood. Expectations around work, identity, and social roles are increasingly condensed. The exhibition opens a space where these structures seem to be temporarily suspended.

The starting point of the work is the El Camino—a centuries-old pilgrimage route, understood here less as a religious path and more as a contemporary experiential space. Over hundreds of kilometers, a state of transition emerges in which everyday life and the perception of time lose their familiar structure. In this reading, the Camino becomes a modern “Neverland”: an in-between space in which freedom, movement, and presence unfold.

Fleeting encounters, landscapes, and light conditions

The works are based on analog photography. Its deliberate limitations—the finite number of exposures, the slowed process of image-making, and the distinctive grain—encourage an intensified form of perception. Rather than functioning as documentation, the images operate as a visual diary, capturing fleeting encounters, landscapes, and light conditions that resist the speed of digital image production.

The exhibition is conceived as a walk-through installation. Photographs of varying formats are freely arranged in the space and complemented by handwritten notes and original diary fragments. This fragmentary structure creates its own dramaturgy, which visitors can navigate at their own rhythm—similar to a journey on foot. The exhibition space itself thus becomes a state of transition.

The visual layer is complemented by a soundscape composed of natural sounds and electronic elements. This is not continuously present but reveals itself through proximity to individual works. Movement through the space becomes part of the experience, intensifying moments of heightened perception.

Notes on Detachment takes place as a four-day pop-up exhibition and is accompanied by a program of events addressing questions of travel, identity, and detachment.

Rather than presenting a purely personal narrative, the work extends an invitation. Through the combination of image, sound, and text, it creates a space. In this space, visitors can reflect on their own experiences of freedom, orientation, and selfhood.

About the artist

Helga Haiman is a photographer and filmmaker whose work explores questions of identity, transition, and perception. Notes on Detachment is based on a personal journey along the El Camino, initiated by the desire to consciously step away from expectations of adulthood and to explore alternative forms of experience and self-determination.
