Manuela – Regrets (Naum Gabo Remix) via Lost Map

Manuela’s ‘Regrets’ returns in a deep, otherworldly remix by NAUM GABO—heavy bass, drifting drones, and a haunting Twin Peaks-like dreamscape.

Reading Time:
1–2 minutes

This is a Remix of Manuela’s most recent single REGRETS, from her forthcoming album Ultraviolet, by Glasgow-based electro duo NAUM GABO. Naum Gabo comprises of legendary DJ Jonnie Wilkes (aka @optimoespacio) and producer James Savage.

The remix draws you into an epic underworld of heavy bass and drone sounds, yet remaining spheric and otherworldly, true to its subject.

Regrets is a sweeping, dreamlike flurry of sparkling synths and swirling orchestration with a Twin Peaks-y atmosphere, ‘Regrets’ is the latest single by Manuela, the London/Munich based project of vocalist and songwriter Manuela Gernedel. It was co-written with Nick McCarthy, and produced with Nick McCarthy and Polina Lapkovskaya.

About ‘Regrets’, Manuela writes:

“The regrets are taking the shape of gargoyles and fraggles, dripping from the walls and tracking you down. Mistakes and bad decisions; hard to get rid of oddballs. We turned this song from a traditional wave approach into a more open form, with a verse without time. A spherical mood – floaty and tense all the same. Recorded traditionally with a three-piece band, then split open with open chords on string and synths.

Whilst we were at the studio working on this one, there was a sudden, very heavy snowfall, which completely disrupted the city of Munich for 24 hours. All transport stopped, snowball fights in the middle of the streets and us stuck in the studio with great people. It was pretty magical. Our Twin Peaks moment.”

The track is taken from Manuela’s forthcoming incredible second album Ultraviolet – nine wry art pop tunes full of playful humour, sparkling production and lush arrangements to get swept away in completely.
