TROPEZ: Kunst im Sommerbad Humboldthain

Das Tropez Sommerprogramm geht weiter mit Lesungen, Performances, der Konzertreihe und Workshops internationaler Künstler:innen für Kinder. Einige Highlights der kommenden Veranstaltungen findet Ihr unten, das vollständige Programm auf der Webseite des Tropez. Die Ausstellung BELIEVE im Sommerbad Humboldthain fragt woran wir heute glauben und ist noch bis zum 3.9. auf dem Freibadgelände im Berliner Wedding zu sehen. 

Sommerprogramm Juli und August: 

LaTonya Yvette ist eine in Brooklyn geborene, multimediale Geschichtenerzählerin und Verwalterin von The Mae House, einer Low-Turnover-Vermietung und Rest as Residency für B-IPOC. Sie gründete und leitete LY, eine gefeierte Lifestyle-Seite von 2012 bis 2022. Als Autorin hat sie Woman Of Color (2019, Abrams) und The Hair Book (2022, Union Square) veröffentlicht. Ihr drittes Buch wird 2024 bei Dial Press, einem Imprint von Penguin Random House, erscheinen. Außerdem ist sie Redakteurin beim Departures Magazine und schreibt den Newsletter With Love, L auf Substack.

Mandla Rae – as british as a watermelon Performance

Autor:in und Performer:in Mandla Rae hat ein selektives Gedächtnis und versucht, ein Leben zusammenzusetzen, das im Namen des Überlebens größtenteils vergessen wurde. Durch die Erkundung von Mandlas fragmentierten Erinnerungen an Asyl und Migration stellt as british as a watermelon Fragen über Zugehörigkeit, Trauma und Vergebung.

Erzählt durch eine schonungslose autofiktionale Erzählung, die Poesie und Storytelling miteinander verwebt, sind die Besucher:innen eingeladen, zuzusehen, wie Mandla von den Toten aufersteht, um eine fehlgeleitete Macht zurückzugewinnen.

Mandla Rae ist ein:e queere simbabwische Autor:in, Performer:in und Kurator:in.Mandla ist agender und hat keine Pronomen. Mandlas Arbeit erforscht typischerweise eine intersektionale Existenz, die dem Körper des/der Künstler:in durch die Welt, in der wir leben, aufgezwungen wird. Zuletzt war Mandlas Kunst im Warwick Arts Centre, beim Journeys Festival International in Leicester und im Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester zu sehen. 

1.2.3 SOLEIL Christina Krys Huber, POOL KRABBLER Zeichen- und Malworkshop 

21.8. – 23.8.

Die Künstler:in Christina Krys Huber lädt die Kinder mit ihrem Workshop Pool Krabbler zum Entdecken und Experimentieren ein. Ausgehend von ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit für die diesjährige Sommerausstellung BELIEVE, dem Sonnensegel S~E~E~D, können die Kinder die Grünfläche des Sommerbad Humboldthain erkunden und die Insektenwelt in ihr erforschen. Dabei werden sie von der Künstler:in begleitet und bekommen Einblicke in ihre Atelierpraxis.

Anschließend werden die Kinder selbst zu Künstler:innen und malen imaginäre Krabbler und andere Fantasiewesen mit Acryl- und Gouachefarben auf Stoffbanner. Zwischendurch gibt es Badespaß und Spiele. Die selbstgestalteten Tücher werden von den Kindern am Ende des Workshops in einer eigenen kleinen Outdoor-Ausstellung aufgehängt und können danach mit nach Hause genommen werden.

Die Ausstellung BELIEVE fragt, woran wir heute glauben und ist noch bis zum 3.9. im Tropez im Sommerbad Humboldthain zu sehen.  Die Skulpturen und Installationen beschäftigen sich mit dem Verhältnis von (Aber-)Glauben zu unserem Alltag. TROPEZ | Sommer Programme July and August TROPEZ is a space for art inside the public pool Sommerbad Humboldthain. The Tropez Summer Programme continues in July and August with readings, performances, concert series and workshops for children by international artists. LaTonya Yvette is Brooklyn-born multi-medium storyteller and steward of The Mae House, a low-turn over rental and Rest as Residency for B-IPOC. She founded and ran, LY, a celebrated lifestyle site from 2012 to 2022. She’s authored, Woman Of Color (2019, Abrams), The Hair Book (2022, Union Square) and her third book will be published by Dial Press, an imprint of Penguin Random House in 2024. She is a contributing editor at Departures Magazine and writes the newsletter, With Love, L on Substack.

Mandla Rae – as british as a watermelon Performance

Writer and performer Mandla Rae has a selective memory and is scrambling to piece together a life mostly forgotten in the name of survival. Through the exploration of Mandla’s fragmented asylum and migration memories, as british as a watermelon asks questions about belonging, trauma and forgiveness. Told through an unflinching autofiction narrative weaving poetry and storytelling, the visitors are invited to watch as Mandla rises from the dead to reclaim a misplaced power.

Mandla Rae is a queer Zimbabwean writer, performer and curator. Mandla is agender and has no pronouns. Mandla’s work typically explores an intersectional existence enforced on the artists’ body as a result of the world we live in. Recently, Mandla art has been seen at the Journeys Festival International in Leicester and in the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester.

1.2.3 SOLEIL Christina Krys Huber – POOL KRABBLER drawing and painting workshop 

21.8. – 23.8.

Artist Christina Krys Huber invites children to discover and experiment in the workshop Pool Krabbler. Based on her artistic work for this year’s summer exhibition BELIEVE, the sun sail S~E~E~D, the children can explore the green space of the Sommerbad Humboldthain and investigate the insect world in it. They will be accompanied by the artist and gain insights into her studio practice.

Afterwards, the children become artists themselves and can paint imaginary crawlers and other fantasy creatures with acrylic and gouache paints on fabric banners. In between, there will be bathing fun and games. At the end of the workshop, the children will hang their self-designed cloths in their own small outdoor exhibition and can take them home afterwards.

The exhibition BELIEVE asks what we believe in today andruns until 3.9. at Tropez at Sommerbad Humboldthain. The sculptures, installations, performances, workshops and events deal with the interaction of believing and our everyday life. Why do we believe in higher (real or surreal) powers? What is the fascination of mysticism? The visual and performing artists, authors and musicians present moral guidance, comforting ideas and modern, sometimes humorous mythology.
