Made by Bastian: Woman in Food

,

Woman in Food: Made by Bastian

How has the portrayal of women in the media changed since the 1950s to the present day?
And are there still parallels to those days?
The advertising campaigns of the 1950s and 1960s reflected a traditional view of women, limiting their role to the ideal of a housewife and perfect family life. Unthinkable in many countries today, it was the absolute norm at the time.

Bastian, a long-time photographer, has created photo shoots for the new ‘Women in Food’ exhibition, using collages to immerse female models in the nostalgic world of food photography from past decades. In contrast to earlier advertising campaigns, the focus is on the female protagonists, emphasising the timeless sensuality and self-confidence of modern women. The exhibition invites discussion about gender roles, the evolution of advertising and the influence of the past on our perceptions of the present.
