• The Art of Resistance: Critical Thinking in Creativity

In today’s intricate socio-political landscape, artists embody resilience, patience, and rebellion equally alike, forging pathways towards a collective utopia.

    Resilience: Navigating Complexity with Persistence

In contemporary artistic practice, resilience has become a pivotal attribute, reflecting the capacity to endure and adapt amid shifting socio-political and economic landscapes. Artists frequently encounter structural challenges, from funding insecurities to cultural gatekeeping, necessitating a tenacity that transforms adversity into creative momentum. The act of producing art, despite such impediments, becomes a form of resistance — a testament to the artist’s resolve to carve out space for expression and dialogue.

Moreover, this resilience extends beyond the individual, manifesting in collective artistic endeavors that nurture solidarity and exchange. Through the formation of collaborative networks, artists cultivate environments where experimentation and critique are embraced, reinforcing the idea that breakthroughs often emerge from a persistence that transcends personal ambition, reaching toward communal empowerment.

Patience: Cultivating Depth in a Rapid-Fire Era

The artistic process is inherently temporal, demanding patience to navigate the intricate evolution of ideas and craft. In an era characterized by immediacy, where digital media accelerates consumption and production, artists serve as custodians of slowness. They embrace the temporal nature of creation, allowing works to gestate and evolve, cultivating meaning through deliberate reflection and meticulous refinement.

This patience is not passive but rather an active engagement with uncertainty. It entails the willingness to dwell within ambiguity, to trust in the process of iteration and discovery. As audiences, we too are invited to slow down — to immerse ourselves in the layers of artistic expression and appreciate the profound narratives that unfold over time, fostering deeper empathy and understanding.

    Rebellion: Deconstructing Norms, Redefining Boundaries

Art has long been a conduit for dissent, challenging prevailing norms and unsettling complacency. In contemporary contexts, rebellion manifests not only through overt political commentary but also through subversive shifts in form, content, and perspective. Artists disrupt entrenched paradigms, offering alternative frameworks for understanding identity, power, and society.

Crucially, this act of rebellion is multifaceted: it can be thunderous and provocative, or subtle and introspective. It encompasses acts of reclaiming marginalized narratives, questioning institutional authority, and envisioning new modes of being. Artists resist reductive narratives. They advocate for multiplicity. By doing so, they destabilize monolithic structures. This creates space for new discourses. It empowers marginalized voices to resonate.

Imagining Utopia: Envisioning Possibility Through Artistic Praxis

Utopia is not merely an aspirational endpoint but an evolving praxis — a continuous negotiation of possibility and imagination. Artists serve as architects of speculative futures, crafting visions that transcend existing limitations and propose alternative social configurations. Through their work, they challenge the notion of inevitability, asserting that other worlds are possible.

This utopian impulse is inherently collective. It thrives in moments of co-creation, where diverse perspectives converge to reimagine shared realities. Art becomes a communal endeavor, fostering dialogue and solidarity while illuminating pathways toward justice, equity, and compassion. The act of imagining utopia, then, is not an isolated pursuit but a radical gesture of hope and transformation.

In a time of profound uncertainty, artists emerge as critical thinkers and visionaries, embracing resilience, patience, and rebellion as tools to forge new possibilities. Their work serves not only as commentary but as a catalyst, compelling us to question, to dream, and ultimately, to participate in the co-creation of a more inclusive and compassionate future.

LESORTSAC X ROBERTO CAVALLI DEBUT COLLABORATION

LeSportsac & Roberto Cavalli unveil their first collaboration, blending lightweight craftsmanship with bold glamour. Available now.

A Fusion of Craftsmanship and Glamour

LeSportsac and Roberto Cavalli unite for the first time to present a bold new collaboration. The Spring 2025 collection seamlessly blends the durable, lightweight materials of LeSportsac with the wild glamour and unapologetic style of Roberto Cavalli.

A Personal Connection to the Collaboration

For Roberto Cavalli’s creative director, Fausto Puglisi, the collaboration with LeSportsac carries a personal significance. Growing up in Messina, Sicily, he admired designer bags at a store coincidentally named Puglisi. One of his most stylish schoolteachers carried a LeSportsac bag daily, making a lasting impression. Inspired by these early memories, Puglisi, alongside LeSportsac creative director Luca Schmitz, aimed to reimagine nostalgic handbag designs for today’s fashion-forward customers.

    Designed for the Modern Lifestyle

“When I connected with LeSportsac, I wanted to use the collaboration as a way to think about a Cavalli way to carry something on the subway in New York, to Coachella, or to Burning Man,” says Puglisi. “Ultimately, we created something democratic, easy, and young.”

Spring 2025 marks the first of four planned collaborative collections. The debut features four distinct groups, all inspired by Roberto Cavalli’s signature aesthetics and available in both classic and updated LeSportsac shapes.

    The Four Key Collections

    Mini Zebra

A timeless Roberto Cavalli signature, Mini Zebra brings untamed, fierce energy to everyday accessories.

    Freedom Rum

Fausto Puglisi’s Freedom print takes inspiration from tiger stripes and the intricate history of Japanese etchings, reinterpreted in earthy desert tones.

    Matelassé

Rooted in Italian craftsmanship, this textured sewing technique blends sophistication with Roberto Cavalli’s iconic animal prints.

    Puffy

Available in Mini Zebra, Freedom Rum, and an all-black Nero, the Puffy bags embody effortless modernity for customers on the go.

    Crafted for Style and Functionality

Each design benefits from LeSportsac’s signature lightweight yet durable materials. Thoughtful details elevate the collection, from precisely placed prints ensuring unique variations to premium non-puckering zippers for a seamless user experience. Dual zipper pulls—one from LeSportsac and the other from Roberto Cavalli—symbolize the seamless partnership. Each bag comes in a limited-edition dust bag, underscoring its exclusivity.

    A Collaboration Built to Last

“This is not just a one-off—this is a true collaboration where two brands tell their stories in a well-crafted, thoughtful way,” says Schmitz. “What impressed me about working with Fausto specifically was his ability to translate Cavalli’s DNA for a younger audience. As 2024 marked our 50th anniversary, I can think of no better foundation than this collaboration to carry LeSportsac into the future.”

    Availability and Launch Details

LeSportsac x Roberto Cavalli launched worldwide on March 11, 2025, for the Spring 2025 season. The collection is available at Neiman Marcus, LeSportsac, and Roberto Cavalli stores globally, as well as online at robertocavalli.com and lesportsac.com.

Liz Rosenfeld – Blood Runs Cold @ Galerie-P6-Berlin

Galerie-P6-Berlin presents “Blood Runs Cold” by Liz Rosenfeld, a striking exploration of identity and autonomy through blood-based digital prints.

    14.03.25 – 31.05.25
    Galerie-P6-Berlin /// Artsy

Galerie-P6-Berlin is pleased to present ‘Blood Runs Cold’, a solo exhibition of photographic prints by artist Liz Rosenfeld, on view from 14.03.25 – 31.05.25 online via the Galerie-P6-Berlin profile on Artsy:

Through the lens of a microscope

Rosenfeld creates a series of large and medium-scale digital prints. They work with the material of their blood. This invites the viewer into their inner biological realm through the lens of a microscope. The artist photographed samples of their own blood, digitizing and transposing these images to large-scale prints.

In some works, the images are layered over hand-drawn irregular holes, a technique the artist employs to signal a dedication to their body as an ongoing collaborative material across all mediums.

Bodies are presented as implicated and sharing responsibility in the shifting of time and space. The title “Blood Runs Cold” refers to the specific geo-political period in which Rosenfeld has created these works, drawing on the privilege they have to examine their own blood with autonomy, turning it into a self-directed material.

While this blood, when analyzed, would read as chronically ill and that of a transsexual being through traces of hormones, amongst other medicalized diagnoses. However, zoomed in, one could begin to dream of world-making in a black hole abyss. Imagine time travel and planetary states beyond a human body defined by systemically defined pathologies and representational identities.

    About:

Liz Rosenfeld is a Berlin-based visual and performance artist who works in film/video, performance, and experimental writing practice. Liz addresses the sustainability of emotional and political ecologies, cruising methodologies, and past and future histories regarding the ways in which memory is queered.

Her work deals with flesh as a non-binary collaborative material, specifically focussing on the potentiality of physical abundance and excess, approaching questions regarding the responsibility and privilege of taking up space.

Embracing an auto-theoretical style, Liz’s writing is rooted in questions that contend with how queer ontologies are grounded in variant hypocritical desire(s.)

    references:

Rosenfelds’s films, performances, and artwork have shown in international museums and venues. These include The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and The Forum Expanded Program of the 2022 Berlinale. Antifestval, Bärenzwinger Berlin, Mousonturm, Tanzhaus nrw, Kampnagel, and the 2019 Bergen Assembly also feature their work.

Followed by the Berlinischer Galerie, Mapa Teatro, Sophiensæle, The Hebbel am Ufer Theatre, The Gorki Theater, Arts Admin and Galerie Emanuel Layr. As well as The Tate Modern, The Hammer Museum, The Leslie Lohman Museum, The Barbican Centre, The CAC- Glasgow, Tramway, The Stedelijk Museum, The C/O Gallery, and The Deutsches Historisches Museum.

Yeşim Akdeniz – Silent Strangers @ Soy Capitán

Yeşim Akdeniz explores labor, craft, and cultural narratives through symbolic objects, blending handmade and industrial materials. Opening: March 21, 6–9 pm!

Join us for the opening on March 21, from 6–9 pm!
    21.03.–25.04.2025

Yeşim Akdeniz’s practice is infused with symbolic narratives. These narratives reflect cultural production, negotiation, and appropriation. They explore the movement of forms, materials, and labor. Her work examines the intersections between craft and industrial production. Central to her work is a distinct visual language of symbolism, through which she weaves personal and cultural references, offering layered interpretations of history, identity, and collective memory.

At the core of the exhibition is a series of iron-welded lamps, created (in collaboration) with a craftsperson in Istanbul, embody the intersection of handmade and industrial production. Alongside these lamps, the artist integrates mass-produced yet unbranded objects—buckles, car upholstery, and other industrial remnants—materials that move through supply chains largely unnoticed.

Much like the workers who handle them, these objects traverse industries and geographies, influencing cultures without acknowledgment or authorship. The exhibition explores the interplay between the handcrafted and the manufactured and the visible and the unseen. It shows how histories of migration, labor, and power are embedded in everyday materials. These elements reveal the silent forces that shape our interconnected world.

    About the Artist:

Yeşim Akdeniz (b. 1978 in Izmir) graduated from Art Academy Düsseldorf in 2002. She participated in the De Ateliers residency program in Amsterdam from 2002 to 2004. She received the Kunstverein Bonn/Peter Mertes Stipendium in 2005. Her work has been exhibited in many institutions. These include Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Kunstverein Frankfurt, and MAK Museum Vienna. It also includes Sammlung Philara in Düsseldorf, Kunstverein Bielefeld, and Kunsthal Mechelen in Belgium.

Yeşim Akdeniz’s practice engages with Orientalism, gender and queer studies, and cultural appropriation. Primarily focused on painting, her work is infused with symbolic narratives that can be read as signs of cultural production, negotiation and appropriation. Her most recent series of works combine autobiographical elements with (art) historical narratives. These works position questions of identity formation alongside the ascriptions and self-attributions of objects, which serve as representations of political structures. The artist currently lives and works between Brussels and Düsseldorf.

April 2025

    Liederabend Joyce DiDonato
    11. April 2025 um 19.30 Uhr | Staatsoper Unter den Linden

Reshaping the Role of Humanity-Driven Design at Isola Design Festival 2025

    7—13 April 2025 | Milan Design Week

The Isola Design Festival 2025, organized by the dynamic digital and physical design platform Isola, is set to return for its 9th edition from April 7 to 13, 2025, during Milan Design Week. Known for its transformative approach to contemporary design, Isola has firmly established itself as a global hub for independent designers, creators, and brands. Its commitment to blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge digital innovation remains central to its ethos, especially with its new Dubai outpost.

This year’s festival theme, Design is Human, delves into the vital relationship between design and humanity, focusing on how design can enhance both the well-being of individuals and the environment. Through this lens, Isola Design Festival will explore the fusion of sustainability, social impact, and functional design, emphasizing the human experience as the core of every design decision. The theme celebrates human creativity, honoring it as the driving force behind impactful and responsible design solutions.

The Heart of Isola Design Festival: BasicVillage

A new venue, BasicVillage, located in the industrial heart of Isola, will serve as the focal point of the 2025 festival. This venue, formerly a rubber factory, has been transformed into a dynamic space for creative exchange and exhibitions. As the district expands, BasicVillage will infuse the area with new creative energy, showcasing three thoughtfully curated collective exhibitions: Conscious Objects, Isola Design Gallery, and Openspace.

Conscious Objects invites visitors to engage with design in a multisensory way, from tactile experiences to interactive elements that explore sustainability, functionality, and playfulness. Objects in this exhibition challenge traditional ideas of design by incorporating adaptability and interaction, merging human craftsmanship with digital and robotic technology.

In parallel, Isola Design Gallery presents collectible design that tells a story, bringing together a variety of setups that explore how contemporary interiors can reflect diverse lifestyles. The exhibition offers a platform for designers to showcase unique, handcrafted pieces that explore new approaches to living and design.

Openspace will act as a dynamic hub for startups, eco-tech brands, and material innovators, providing a glimpse into the future of design. This area will foster collaborations and inspire visitors with new materials, processes, and technologies that are shaping the future of design.

    Celebrating Cultural and Sustainable Design

The festival also shines a spotlight on international and local collaborations, such as Rasa – The Indian Collective, an exhibition celebrating India’s rich craftsmanship through contemporary design. Featured will be over 15 Indian designers showcasing hand-blown glass, textiles, and furniture that bridge tradition with modernity.

Additionally, ENHANCE, curated by Juan Torres for DesignWanted, will challenge conventional design boundaries by aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. This exhibition showcases projects that turn deep research into meaningful solutions, pushing the boundaries of design to shape a better future.

    Future Design Innovations

The Isola Design Awards Winners’ Showcase will bring to Milan the outstanding winners of the 2024 awards, showcasing designs that reflect the innovative spirit of Isola’s global community. Isola is also launching the 5th edition of its open call, continuing to inspire designers to push their craft to new heights.

    Experiential Design Across Milan

Beyond BasicVillage, the Isola neighborhood will transform into a vibrant design district, featuring a wide range of exhibitions, workshops, and live demonstrations. Notable projects like La Vie En Gloss, presented by Kérastase at BAM, and Deus Ex Machina by Arno Hoogland, explore the intersection of beauty, technology, and sustainable design, providing an immersive experience that blends physical and virtual worlds.

    A Celebration of Human-Centered Creativity

As the festival continues to expand, Isola remains dedicated to celebrating the human element of design. From the cultural craftsmanship of India to the sustainability-driven innovations of local designers, the Isola Design Festival 2025 promises to be an exploration of design’s potential to shape our world, our communities, and our futures.
