Horizon blends elements of ambient, deep house, and techno, capturing a spectrum of emotions through instrumental electronic music. Horizon draws inspiration from different subgenres. This includes artists like Christian Löffler, Ben Böhmer, and Fejkà, as well as Max Cooper, Moderat, and Jon Hopkins. Horizon uses various musical languages to embark listeners on a cinematic journey. The EP explores an unique perspective on emotions, with each track serving as a sonic reflection of a distinct experience.
Opening with Envelop immersing listeners are transported in a comforting soundscape reminiscent of being wrapped in a cozy blanket amidst a world of vibrant colors. Flying follows with ethereal melodies that evoke a sense of boundless freedom, complemented by a melancholic yet hopeful piano theme. Indigo captures the tranquil moment of a sunset over a serene landscape.
The intensity shifts with Haunted. The track delves into the depths of obsession with a mesmerizing start and evolves into a dark climax. The music video for Haunted was released on 28 June 2024 as a single to announce the new EP. The Single has obtained the coveted Vimeo staff pick and was also shared on the Director’s Library. Finally, Horizon encapsulates the stress of travel, mirroring the rhythmic, almost hypnotic sound of a train journey through intricate electronic textures.
Macgray’s biography
Macgray creates a musical landscape full of analog synths, pianos, strings, voices and field recordings. The producer and pianist has been playing music for more than two decades and has studied classical music and jazz before his electronic music journey started 8 years ago. Macgray has played in many collective projects, including a rock band (TOTM), an electronic music ensemble (Bétøn) and for Mathieu Thonon.
Macgray started his solo project in 2019, ranging from ambient, to film music and Electronica. His debut album Journey to the Dawn released in early 2020 was nominated for the Octave de la Musique in 2021 (Electronic Music category).
Since then, he has released a second album Collapse in 2023 acclaimed by many electronic producers, including Dave Clarke. He also works on film music and has released two long documentary soundtracks, Premières Danses released on France 2 in 2023, and Queerying Nature released in Belgian theatres and on RTBF which was pre-selected for a Magritte in 2024.
He has performed on many stages in Belgium, including notable performances at Fuse and at Botanique.
