Diesen Samstag lädt der Verein Jüdische Stimme für einen gerechten Frieden im Nahen Osten zu einer Trauer- und Hoffnungsfeier in unseren Räumlichkeiten: eine Gruppe, die aus jüdischen und israelischen Mitgliedern besteht und Preisträger des renommierten Göttinger Friedenspreises 2019 für ihre herausragende Arbeit zur Förderung von Frieden und Gerechtigkeit in Israel-Palästina ist. In den vergangenen Wochen wurden wir von der Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt – Oyouns Hauptförderer – mehrfach dazu gedrängt, besagte Veranstaltung abzusagen, da sie “zu politisch aufgeladen” sei.
JEWISH VOICE, PALESTINIAN FILMS + TINY EXHIBITIONS
Mittlerweile hat das Thema auch die Medien erreicht. Verschiedene Berliner Tageszeitungen haben unsere Arbeit angegriffen und mittlerweile hat die Neuköllner Grünen-Abgeordnete Susanna Kahlefeld eine Pressemitteilung veröffentlicht, in der sie das Ende der Förderung von Oyoun fordert. Wir werden uns diesem Druck nicht beugen, die Veranstaltung wie geplant stattfinden lassen und für das Weiterbestehen von Oyoun kämpfen. Jüdische, palästinensische, israelische Menschen sind selbstverständlich Teil der Neuköllner Gesellschaft, gestalten diese mit und brauchen dafür Räumlichkeiten, die wir ihnen als Ort in Neukölln zur Verfügung stellen. Friedliche Kooperation als Antwort zum Krieg
Einen Tag zuvor, am Freitag, und sehr kurzfristig hosten wir zwei Screenings im Rahmen der Palestine Cinema Days 23. Das Festival findet seit 2014 jährlich in Palästina statt – so auch für diese Woche geplant – und musste in diesem Jahr aufgrund der andauernden humanitären Krise vor Ort abgesagt werden. Als Antwort auf die Festivalabsage werden nun in über 100 Orten weltweit Screenings mit Filmen aus der diesjährigen Auswahl organisiert.
Im Oyoun zeigen wir in diesem Rahmen “Stitching Palestine”, eine Dokumentation von Carol Mansour in der zwölf palästinensische Frauen Geschichten aus ihrer Heimat teilen, sowie Michel Khleifis “The Tale of the Three Jewels”, der als erster Spielfilm Anfang 1994 komplett in Gaza gedreht wurde. Der Eintritt für die Vorführungen ist frei: first come, first served!
Später im November gibt es ein Wiedersehen mit den Beteiligten unseres Tiny Oyounity Projekts. Unter dem Titel Experience Oyounity und kuratiert vom Queer Analog Darkroom-Kollektiv werden hier künstlerische Ergebnisse aus fünf Wochen Tiny House Tour im Rahmen einer multimedialen Ausstellung geteilt. Die Eröffnung ist am 16. November. Der Eintritt ist frei!

EXPERIENCE OYOUNITY
Nach einer Reise an fünf verschiedene Berliner Kulturorte und mit einem Angebot von insgesamt über 34 verschiedenen Veranstaltungen und Workshops im Laufe von fünf Wochen wurde Oyouns Tiny House zu einem nomadischen Treffpunkt, um gemeinsam zu erschaffen und weniger bekannte Ecken Berlins zu erforschen.
Experience Oyounity bietet die Möglichkeit sich durch eine multimediale Ausstellung eine Vorstellung der aufregenden Reise des Tiny Houses zu verschaffen. Von der Fotografie über Ton und Sprache bis hin zum Austausch von Informationen und der gegenseitigen Unterstützung war der kollaborative Aspekt des Tiny House ein grundlegendes Element, das alle Workshops und Standorte miteinander verbunden hat.

STATEMENT ON ISRAEL, PALESTINE AND FREE SPEECH
Oyoun ist eine Kulturorganisation im Herzen Berlins, die sich für soziale Gerechtigkeit für, von und mit marginalisierten Kreativen einsetzt. Seit der Gründung wird Oyoun von der “Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt” gefördert. In den letzten Jahren haben wir erlebt, dass der Umfang unserer Arbeit immer stärker hinterfragt und kontrolliert wird – alles auf Kosten unserer künstlerischen Freiheit und der Meinungsfreiheit. Wir wurden vom Berliner Senat gewarnt, dass die künstlerische Freiheit für zu politisch aufgeladene Themen nicht mehr gewährt wird. In Ermangelung einer objektiven Definition von “zu politisch aufgeladen” sind wir bei der Gestaltung unserer Aktivitäten, Veranstaltungen und Partnerschaften auf das subjektive und willkürliche Urteil des Senats angewiesen …

Open Call: PROSPER – OHRID RESIDENCY 2024
Im Rahmen des EU-Projekts PROSPER – PROtotype for Sustainable residencies in PERipheries – erkunden wir gemeinsam mit Partnerorganisationen Peripherien, indem wir durch eine Reihe transnationaler kultureller Kooperationen Verbindungen zwischen ökologisch gefährdeten Regionen schaffen. Mit dem Ziel, unter anderem die transnationale kulturelle Zusammenarbeit, Methoden zur Integration von Umweltfragen in die künstlerische Praxis, eine stärkere Zusammenarbeit zwischen Kunst und Tourismus, sowie ein gestärktes lokales Publikum zu fördern, wird die erste Residenz vom 1. April bis zum 30. April 2024 am Ohridsee in Nordmazedonien stattfinden.

TINY OYOUNITY TOUR
Im September und Oktober war unser Tiny House auf großer Tour durch verschiedene Berliner Stadtteile und hat dabei über 30 Workshops und Pop-Up Veranstaltungen an insgesamt fünf Tourstopps ermöglicht. Bevor einige der dabei entstandenen Kunstwerke – von Fotografien über Podcasts bis hin zu Mixtapes – in einer vom Kollektiv Queer Analog Darkroom (die ebenfalls Teil der Tour waren) kuratierten Ausstellung – im November im Oyoun gezeigt werden, gibt es jetzt schon einen fotografischen Rückblick auf unserer Website.
ELECTRIC LIES
Die “Electric Lies” Residency Artists Camilla Therese Karlsen, Elisabeth Heilmann Blind, Lars Henrik Blind, Marika Renhuvud, Liv Aira, Luis Bogado und Asta Mitkijá Balto waren letzten Monat in Berlin und zu Gast im Oyoun. Dabei haben sie untersucht, welche Auswirkungen es hat, wenn indigene Gemeinschaften gezwungen werden, ihre traditionelle Lebensweise aufzugeben, um den Weg für moderne Energieerzeugung für die Massen zu ebnen.
Zum Auftakt demonstrierten sie in Berlin in Solidarität mit ihren samischen Landsleuten, die in Oslo gegen die Windkraftanlagen auf ihren Rentierweiden demonstrierten. Vor zwei Jahren, am 11. Oktober, erklärte der Oberste Gerichtshof Norwegens die Windkraftanlagen in Fosen, die die Rechte der Sami verletzen, für illegal. Weitere Informationen und Bilder finden sich auf unserer Website!

JEWISH VOICE, PALESTINIAN FILMS + TINY EXHIBITIONS
This Saturday and for their 20th anniversary, the association Jewish Voice for a Just Peace in the Middle East will host an evening of mourning and hope in our premises. The group is composed of Jewish and Israeli members and was awarded the prestigious Göttingen Peace Prize in 2019 for their outstanding work in promoting peace and justice in Israel-Palestine. In recent weeks, we have been pressured multiple times by the “Senate of Culture and Social Cohesion” – Oyoun’s main funder – to cancel the said event, as it is deemed “too politically charged.”
The issue has now also reached the media, with various Berlin daily newspapers criticizing our work. Neukölln Green Party representative Susanna Kahlefeld has issued a press release demanding the end of Oyoun’s funding. We will not succumb to this pressure, the event will proceed as planned and we continue to fight for Oyoun’s existence. Jewish, Palestinian, and Israeli individuals are an integral part of Neukölln’s society, shaping it and requiring spaces, which we provide as a location in Neukölln. Just as on November 4th. Peaceful Cooperation in Response to War
One day before – this Friday – and on very short notice, we will host two screenings as part of Palestine Cinema Days 23. The festival has been held annually in Palestine since 2014, was supposed to take place this week, but had to be canceled due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis on-site. In response to the festival’s cancellation, screenings of films from this year’s selection are being organized in over 100 locations worldwide.
At Oyoun, we will show “Stitching Palestine”, a documentary by Carol Mansour in which twelve Palestinian women share stories from their homeland, as well as Michel Khleifi’s “The Tale of the Three Jewels,” the first feature film that was entirely shot in Gaza in early 1994. Admission to the screenings is free: first come, first served!
Later in November, there will be a reunion with the participants of our Tiny Oyounity project. Under the title Experience Oyounity and curated by the Queer Analog Darkroom Collective, artistic results from the five-week Tiny House Tour will be shared in a multimedia exhibition. The opening is on November 16th, admission is free!

Experience Oyounity is an invitation to the public to get an impression of this exciting voyage through photographs, videos, artistic objects and even hands-on opportunities to make your own creations and feel the unity within collaboration. From photography, to sound & speech, to sharing information & empowering each other, the collaborative aspect of the Tiny House was an underlying conduit that intertwined all workshops & locations with each other.

Oyoun is a cultural organisation at the heart of Berlin, dedicated to advancing social justice for, by and with marginalised creatives. Since its inception, Oyoun has been funded by the “Senate of Culture and Social Cohesion”. Over the past years, we have seen the scope of our work being increasingly scrutinised and controlled, at the cost of our artistic freedom and freedom of expression. We have been warned by the Berlin Senate that artistic freedom is no longer granted for topics too politically charged. For lack of an objective definition of “too politically charged”, we have been dependent on the subjective and arbitrary judgement of the Senate as we curate our activities, events and partnerships …

Open Call: PROSPER – OHRID RESIDENCY 2024
Together with partner organisations, we are currently exploring peripheries through the EU Project PROSPER – PROtotype for Sustainable residencies in PERipheries – by creating connections between ecologically vulnerable regions through a series of transnational cultural collaborations. Aiming to promote this as well as methods of integrating environmental issues into artistic practice, increased collaboration between arts and tourism, and empowered local audiences, the first residency will take place at Lake Ohrid in Northern Macedonia from 1 April to 30 April 2024.

TINY OYOUNITY TOUR
In September and October, our Tiny House went on a grand tour of various Berlin neighbourhoods, facilitating over 30 workshops and pop-up events at a total of five tour stops. Before some of the resulting artworks – from photographs to podcasts to mixtapes – are shown in an exhibition curated by the collective Queer Analog Darkroom (who were also part of the tour) at Oyoun in November, you can already find a photographic documentation of the tour on our website.
ELECTRIC LIES
The “Electric Lies” residency artists Camilla Therese Karlsen, Elisabeth Heilmann Blind, Lars Henrik Blind, Marika Renhuvud, Liv Aira, Luis Bogado and Asta Mitkijá Balto were in Berlin gathering at Oyoun last month. They were exploring the impact when indigenous communities are compelled to forsake their traditional way of life to pave the way for modern energy production for the masses.
Their first day (Wednesday) united them for a demo in Berlin, standing in solidarity with their fellow Sami demonstrating in Oslo against the wind turbines on their reindeer pastures. Two years ago on 11th October, Norway’s Supreme Court declared the wind turbines in Fosen that violated Sami rights to be illegal. Please find more info and pictures on our website!
