Der Verhaltenskodex wurde von der Geschäftsführung in einem partizipativen Prozess unter Einbindung der Mitarbeitenden erarbeitet, mit den Gesellschaftern abgestimmt und anschließend vom Aufsichtsrat beschlossen. Er gilt für die Organisation und ihre Mitarbeitenden und umfasst alle Arbeitsbereiche der Gesellschaft.
Ein von Toleranz und Weltsicht geprägter Raum
Der Code of Conduct beschreibt die ethischen Grundwerte der documenta gGmbH, an denen sich sämtliches Handeln der Institution orientiert. Im Zentrum stehen die Achtung und Wahrung menschlicher Würde als fundamentaler Grundlage zivilisierten Lebens in Freiheit und Selbstbestimmung sowie die Gewährleistung der Kunstfreiheit und den für jede künstlerische Betätigung unabdingbaren freien, von Toleranz und Weltsicht geprägten Raum.
Die documenta gGmbH macht es sich zur Aufgabe, Antisemitismus, Rassismus und jedweder anderen Form gruppenbezogener Menschenfeindlichkeit aktiv entgegenzutreten. Hierbei gelten die Arbeitsdefinition des Antisemitismus der International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance und die Rassismusdefinition der UN-Antirassismuskonvention. Der Code of Conduct adressiert zudem institutionelle Grundlagen der Nachhaltigkeit.
Bekenntnis zur Freiheit der Kunst

Der Hessische Staatsminister für Wissenschaft und Forschung, Kunst und Kultur Timon Gremmels ergänzt: „Die documenta gGmbH sendet mit diesem Verhaltenskodex ein wichtiges Signal. The documenta und Museum Fridericianum gGmbH has adopted a Code of Conduct and published it on its website today. The Code of Conduct was drawn up by the Managing Director in a participatory process involving the employees, agreed with the shareholders and subsequently confirmed by the Supervisory Board. It applies to the organization and its employees and covers all areas of the organization’s work.
A space characterised by tolerance and a world view
The Code of Conduct describes the fundamental ethical values of documenta gGmbH, which guide all of the institution’s actions. At its heart are the respect and preservation of human dignity as the fundamental basis of civilized life rooted in freedom and self-determination, as well as guaranteeing artistic freedom and the free space characterized by tolerance and an open world view that is indispensable for any artistic activity.
The documenta gGmbH is committed to actively opposing anti-Semitism, racism, and any other form of group-related misanthropy. The working definition of anti-Semitism of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance and the definition of racism of the UN Convention on Racism apply. The Code of Conduct also addresses the institutional foundations of sustainability.
Commitment to the freedom of art
