Anlässlich der Paper Positions Berlin 2025 vereint Ronewa Art Projects die Werke von Amina Benbouchta und Myriam El Haïk. Beide Künstlerinnen präsentieren neue Arbeiten, die eigens für die Messe entstanden sind.

Amina Benbouchta: Symbolik und kulturelle Spiegelungen

Benbouchta nutzt Malerei, Collage, Fotografie und Installation, um Macht, Begehren und Wahrnehmung zu hinterfragen. Sie verbindet das Alltägliche mit Mythologie, Literatur und persönlichen Erinnerungen.

Die neue Serie integriert Seiten aus antiken Büchern (teils bis 1350 zurückreichend) und Archivmaterial aus ihrer Familie. Der Einsatz von Rot und Gold sowie das Krinoline-Motiv stehen im Zentrum ihrer poetischen Auseinandersetzung mit Sichtbarkeit und Schutz.

Myriam El Haïk: Muster, Rhythmus und Zeit

El Haïk verbindet Musik mit visueller Kunst. In ihren neuen Arbeiten aus der Rugs, Color Field Series treffen amerikanischer Minimalismus und marokkanische Teppichästhetik aufeinander.

Zudem zeigt Ronewa zwei Zeichnungen aus der Serie Rugs, Color Lines, die 2022 im KW Institute for Contemporary Art zur 12. Berlin Biennale präsentiert wurden.

Künstlerinnenbiografien

Amina Benbouchta, geboren 1963 in Casablanca, lebt in Casablanca und Paris. Seit 1986 ist sie international ausgestellt.

Myriam El Haïk, geboren 1973 in Rabat, lebt in Berlin, Paris und Rabat. Ihre interdisziplinären Arbeiten reichen von Zeichnungen über Performances bis zu Installationen.

Two Moroccan-French artists unveil new works at Paper Positions Berlin 2025, exploring identity, culture, symbolism and rhythm on paper.

Ronewa Art Projects brings together the works of Amina Benbouchta and Myriam El Haïk for the 2025 edition of Paper Positions Berlin, showcasing new pieces created especially for this occasion.

Amina Benbouchta: Symbolism and Cultural Duality

Benbouchta’s mixed-media works explore themes of power, desire, and perception. Drawing on mythology, folklore, literature, and personal memory, she develops a rich symbolic language interweaving red and gold tones with motifs like the crinoline—both a seductive and restrictive symbol of femininity.

Her new series incorporates elements from antique books (as old as 1350) and family archives, bringing together collage, painting, and drawing in a compelling reflection on domination and the veiling of truth.

Myriam El Haïk: Pattern, Rhythm, and Time

El Haïk connects music and visual art, creating works that translate minimalist compositions into vibrant visual systems. For the fair, she presents her latest drawings from the Rugs, Color Field Series, blending American color field painting with the geometric rhythm of Moroccan rugs.

The exhibition also includes two earlier works from her Color Lines Series, originally shown at KW Institute during the 12th Berlin Biennale, underscoring her ongoing exploration of cultural bridges and artistic systems.

Biographies

Amina Benbouchta, born 1963 in Casablanca, lives in Casablanca and Paris. She studied Anthropology and Middle Eastern Studies and has exhibited internationally since 1986.

Myriam El Haïk, born 1973 in Rabat, is based in Berlin, Paris, and Rabat. Her interdisciplinary practice spans drawing, performance, video, and installations.
