FROM SEP 27 TO NOV 15
Starting Saturday, September 27, 2025, CAMERA WORK Gallery will present a major solo exhibition of the work of Patrick Demarchelier, who passed away in 2022. Over 40 photographic works will expand the view of the artist’s extensive oeuvre. In addition to world-famous photographic icons such as Christy (with Rose) and Christy and Mouse, numerous works will be shown here for the first time.
The exhibition is accompanied by the publication of a major new book, Patrick Demarchelier – Fashion Photographs Seen and Unseen (Rizzoli).
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition is divided into two thematic areas: fashion photography and portraiture. In his fashion works, Patrick Demarchelier transformed fabrics and silhouettes into sculptural compositions of light and movement. His portraits, on the other hand, reveal a special closeness to his subjects. Glenn Close, Paul Newman, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, and Demi Moore do not appear as staged figures.
Instead, they are depicted with an authenticity that makes his work timeless. Models such as Christy Turlington, Kate Moss, and Gisele Bündchen are also part of these multi-layered works, in which personality and elegance merge into artistic reality.

His collaborations with Christy Turlington defined a central chapter in his career. Their joint works are among the icons of fashion photography, combining timeless beauty, expressiveness, and subtle sensuality. Patrick Demarchelier knew how to combine technical precision with emotional depth. His works are visually powerful and sensitive in their expression, carried by a keen sense for the subtle nuances of personality.
ABOUT PATRICK DEMARCHELIER
Patrick Demarchelier (1943–2022) began his artistic career in Le Havre, France, and developed a keen understanding of light, composition, and visual language at an early age. After working in Paris and New York, he created works for international magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Glamour, and Rolling Stone, as well as for renowned fashion and jewelry houses such as Chanel, Dior, Armani, and Yves Saint Laurent.

With his ability to combine elegance and expressiveness, he had a lasting impact on fashion photography and made his visual language a reference point for subsequent generations of photographic artists. Through his sensitivity to detail, expression, and composition, he blurred the boundaries between fashion photography and artistic portraiture. His works are exhibited in museums worldwide and are found in important public and private collections.
