A Visual Representation of Obscure Emotions
Opening on March 14, 2025, at GNYP Gallery, Berlin, I Pictured Skin by Elsa Rouy presents a raw and deeply psychological exploration of the human condition. Rouy’s works challenge notions of intimacy, power, and the boundaries between self and society.

Skin as a Metaphor for Exposure and Concealment
Rouy’s paintings are characterized by their semi-biographical intensity, using the human body as a site of tension. Clothing merges with flesh, figures appear trapped between submission and dominance, and emotions of shame, guilt, and isolation emerge. In this exhibition, she explores skin not just as a physical surface but as a symbol of vulnerability and self-exploration.
A Rising Voice in Contemporary Art
A graduate of Camberwell College of Art, Elsa Rouy has exhibited at Guts Gallery, London, and Steve Turner, Los Angeles. Her ability to provoke both tenderness and discomfort in the viewer has established her as an exciting voice in contemporary art.
