Digital Multilogue: On Grief, Exnovation and The Power of…

…Mutual learning

The next Digital Multilogue “On Grief, Exnovation, The Power of Mutual learning” discusses: How can we turn anxiety or anger into action? Which practices and ideas do we want to unlearn, and which to preserve, strengthen, or learn afresh? In a field framed as innovative and perpetually new, we want to consider exnovation – the ending of practices and products.

The Digital Multilogue on Fashion Education 2024 invites us to come together to grieve – to acknowledge, accept and act. Come together to explore the power of mutual learning.registration open

What is the Digital Multilogue on Fashion Education anyway?

The Digital Multilogue on Fashion Education wants to create connections and actions within and across different fashion learning cultures and contexts. It was founded in 2019 as a participatory and outcome-oriented space and a series of conferences focused on the learning and teaching of fashion.

It aims to explore and illustrate the diversity and complexity of the field and the practices of fashion education, and to foster a greater understanding of its pasts, presents and futures – methods, values and didactic, pedagogic and epistemological questions – creating a global exchange to inspire mutual learning, collaborative research and shared action.

When is the Multilogue 2024 taking place?

10 October 2024, 6-9 pm (CEST)

What it is about and why?

The Digital Multilogue on Fashion Education 2024: On grief, exnovation, and the power of mutual learning

‘grief is not the end of things but rather the dark substrate from which great things can emerge.’

Nick Cave (2024) The Red Hand Files, Issue #287, June

Which practices, ideas and expectations do we need to let go? Which ones are not realistic, timely or constructive anymore in the world we live in? How can we turn anxiety or anger into action? Which practices and ideas do we want to unlearn, and which to preserve, strengthen, or learn afresh? In a field framed as innovative and perpetually new, we want to consider exnovation – the ending of practices and products.

The Digital Multilogue on Fashion Education 2024 invites us to come together to grieve – to acknowledge, accept and act. Come together to explore the power of mutual learning.

Where is it happening: online / hybrid / in-person?

Come together locally whilst learning from and connecting with global fashion learning communities. We are inviting you to meet locally, joining the global community online at the beginning and the end of the Multilogue.

It’s called a digital Multilogue, but it is also local – what’s going on?

When we founded the Multilogues in 2019, we imagined physical meetings. The Covid pandemic turned them digital – and on the upside much more inclusive, accessible and global as a result. Hundreds of fashion learners and leading learners have been coming together every year from more than 50 countries.

Last year’s Multilogue was a hybrid conference on De-Fashioning Education, it took place in Berlin, September 2023. Everyone greatly appreciated sharing spaces, physical interaction, humour, food… Many of us met other local fashion learners from our communities that we hadn’t met before. Let’s strengthen our local communities whilst connecting to and learning with our global community.

Who can participate?

Everyone. The Multilogue is always open-access and free for all. As should all education be! Everyone is a fashion learner.

We are twenty people who want to come together – is that ok?

Of course. The more, the merrier. Imagine the space you would like to create to join the Multilogue.

I only know one other fashion educator in my area – what do I do?

Try to reach out now. People have already made local calls on LinkedIn and Insta. Everyone is a fashion learner – open up and reach out. Otherwise find an online community for the day.

How do I participate / register?

Register here. *Registration is open till 31 August 2024.

I have more questions, who can I ask?
